Sitting Volleyball

For People With and Without a Physical Disability!

Picture of sitting volley players

A fast-paced, competitive sport, sitting volleyball is played by thousands of people around the world. Introduced in Canada in 2006 at the National level (over half a century beyond the origin of the sport), Optimum Volleyball was pleased to present the first community-level Sitting Volleyball program in the country in Spring of 2008.

Sitting Volleyball can be played by people with or without a physical disability. Often people mistakenly call it “sit volleyball” or “seated volleyball” instead of its official name – and usually the first thing we explain is “no, you don’t sit in a wheelchair, you sit on the floor!” No special equipment is required. If you can sit and use your hands to move and position yourself on the floor, keep your eye on the ball and perform a range of volleyball skills, get set for a lot of fun!
